What is Qi?
How does it move?

Qi is life force energy that flows throughout the body.  It is known in different languages and has many different names to describe it. In India it is known as Prana, the Japanese refer to it as Qi and in China it is Chi.  This energy animating all life force also protects it from disease.  A persons health is influenced by the quality, quanity and movement or stasis of this energy.  It is necessary for growth, development, movement, maintenance of body temperature, and overall regulation of the body.

What are Meridians?
Where do they come from?

Meridians are like rivers of water within the body where Qi flows and caries nutrients along with it. Wherever the river flows freely, it will bring healing energy that provides nourishment and life to every cell, tissue, muscle, organ and gland in the body.  Likewise when there is a blockage in the river or meridian pathway the water or life force energy Qi is prohibited from moving out. This causes the body systems to be deprived of nutrients and eventually begin to show signs of malnutrition of either energy or blood.

What are the symbols of
Yin/Yang?

How do they relate to my
health & Well-being?

How does stress affect the quality & smooth flow of Qi?

Different stresors affect different organ systems and their meridians as well, by disrupting or blocking the energy flow of both Qi and blood.

The Liver/Gall Bladder are affected by the emotion of anger, while the Spleen/Stomach are most affected by worry or over thinking. The Kidney/Bladder energies are affected by fear, whereas the Heart/Small Intestine energies are affected by love, or lack of. The Lungs/Large Intestine are affected by grieving mostly and not being able to let go.

It is a wise man & woman to allow all the negative emotions to pass as they will only inhibit the quality and smooth flow of Qi.

Where the Qi flows smoothly so will the blood flow smoothly and there will be no stagnation, thus all aspects of the body-mind will receive proper nourishment.

When there is stagnation of Qi & blood, pain from inflammation will occur.  This acidic buildup is from the lack of new blood which carries needed nutrients to all organ systems and cells.

How can the movement of Qi be disrupted, interrupted or become blocked?

  • Poor diet

  • Physical trauma

  • Emotional trauma

  • Inherited Weakness of Qi

  • Chemical, physical and or emotional stresors

What does an acupuncturist do?

Mary Maurer our clinic director and lisenced acupuncturist will conduct a thorough initial exam which includes a complete health history.  She will then develop a unique treatment plan that will address your specific needs and concerns.   The goals of the treatment plan will be to eliminate visible symptoms and signs of discomfort while addressing the deeper root causes and underlying imbalances affecting the quality and quantity of Qi and blood.

Inserting fine sterile needles at specific point locations, an acupuncturist is able to break up blockages that have disrupted the movement and free flow of Qi.  Opening the flow of this life force energy allowing it to travel freely throughout the body and mind, will promote pain-free health, well-being and vitality.

Acupuncturist use various treatment methods to facilitate the natural change needed to restore and maintain good health and well-being. Natural adjunct therapies may be suggested along with the acupuncture treatments to speed up the recovery and healing process.  Massage, stretching, yoga, meditation, and herbal supplements with dietary changes support acupuncture care.
